Best software tools for 2D and 3D illustration

Alright, I’ve hit a wall with the drawing apps I’ve been using. Mostly just stuck with Photoshop and Clip Studio, but I keep hearing about all these other tools that are supposed to be way better for certain stuff, like 3D modeling or even animating comic panels. Anyone here switched up their software and noticed a difference? I remember once I tried Blender for a project, and it was a mess at first, but eventually things clicked. Would love to hear what’s actually worth learning for 2D vs 3D stuff.

I’ve been meaning to try Procreate, everyone keeps talking about it. Feels like there’s always a new “must-have” app, but at the end of the day, it’s about what works best for you. Cool to see so many people mixing up different tools now—kinda makes me want to get back into drawing again just for fun.

Yeah, Photoshop is kind of the default, but honestly there’s a lot of great niche stuff now. For 3D, Blender has a steep learning curve but it’s totally worth it if you stick with it—especially for backgrounds or posing models. For 2D, Procreate on iPad is amazing if you like drawing by hand, and Krita is free and surprisingly powerful too. If you want to see examples of what people are making with all these tools, you can always check out https://18comix.org. A lot of artists actually list what software they use in their posts, so it’s a good way to get ideas. Personally, I switch between Clip Studio and Blender depending on the project. Once you figure out the workflow, it’s super satisfying to see your work come together in 3D and then finish it off in 2D.
