How Do I Make An Audio Recording?

I have had several people ask how can they make an audio recording. This site accepts only MP3 format submissions.

What software to use? I personally use this software here: http://free-sound-recorder-2010.soft112.com/

I recommend a USB microphone.

How do you edit out mistakes in your audio? If you wish to cut off the first or last bit where there can be pops and sounds, or if you're very ambitious and wish to edit out sections entirely, I use this program here, I have found it the easiest to use. Be advised however, when editing a file, it will come out double the file size you started with, I don't know how to correct that, I wish I did.....http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/index.html

What if I have a really long story? I believe the current site limit is 45 MB, which is approx 45 min of audio (unedited). If you have found it easier to make say a 30 min audio in 3 10 min segments and join them together, which it can be difficult doing a lengthy audio without errors, this is a good MP3 joiner software I myself use. http://freeaudiovideosoft.com/freemp3joiner/index.html

I have an audio, but it's not in MP3, how can I convert it for submission? Here is some free converting software for soundfiles. http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html

When making an audio, please try and keep background sounds to a minimum, close windows to lessen outside noise, turn off air conditioners, no background music, that can create copyright infringement issues, hold the mic close, but not too close. Many audios we are submitted have unacceptable levels of background noise and are poor sound quality. 3 minutes is also the minimum length for audios other than for poems and voice greetings.

Good luck, and happy creating.
